Why is the birth of Kayin written strangely? In Bereishis 4:1, the Pasuk describes the birth of Kayin: >וְהָאָדָם יָדַע אֶת־חַוָּה אִשְׁתּוֹ וַתַּהַר וַתֵּלֶד אֶת־קַיִן וַתֹּאמֶר קָנִיתִי אִישׁ אֶת־יְהוָה > >Now the man knew his wife Chava, and she conceived and bore Kayin, saying, “I have gained a male child with the help of the LORD.” ... In my shul there were no Kohanim, and a bunch of Levi'im, so we asked the rav what to do, and he said that for Simchas Torah, *any* order is fine. I was called for shlishi (and i am a Levi) after a Yisrael was called. (more) |

A: Why are we only worried about choking now? The Baal Shem Tov writes: >וביום הכיפורים לית ליה רשות לאסטוני (יומא ד"כ ע"א), על כן בא השטן בכל כחו לקטרג על כל אדם > >On the day of Yom Kippur, [the Satan] has no permission to prosecute, therefore the Satan is coming in full force to prosecute everyone. Why does Rashi leave out an example? In Devarim 32:48 the pasuk says: >וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה בְּעֶ֛צֶם הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר > >That very day the LORD spoke to Moses Rashi on Devarim 32:48 writes: >וידבר ה' אל משה בעצם היום הזה >... בִּשְׁלוֹשָׁה מְקוֹמוֹת נֶאֱמַר בְּעֶצֶם הַיּוֹם הַזֶּה, נֶאֱמַר בְּנֹחַ "בְּעֶצ... Question | — |
Why are we only worried about choking now? In Orach Chaim 607:1 it says: >צריך להתודות במנחה קודם סעודה המפסקת > > One must say vidui at mincha prior to the final meal before the fast. The Mishnah Berurah explains: >קודם סעודה המפסקת - שמא יארע לו דבר קלקלה בסעודה שיחנק או שתטרף דעתו ולא יוכל להתודות אח"כ > >Prior to the final me... (more) |

Making a Bracha on a smell test. Some members of my family are required to take a "smell test" in order to attend school each day. Are they required to make a bracha בורא מיני בשמים like when usually smelling nice things, or is this considered a special case and they wouldn't have to[^1]? (more) |
