Question What's your favorite weekly Torah section, and why?
There are 54 weekly sections ("parashiyos" or "sedras") in the Torah.[^1] Which of these is your favorite, and why? Answers I seek: Please don't answer with a section name with no explanation as to why. I, too, can answer 54 answers, one with each name. Without an explanation, such an answer is no...

Answer A: Should minimal research be required before posting?
> Should this be adopted as site policy…? I'm not sure. But even if it is, we should clarify that the required degree of research is user-dependent. As a wise woman once said: > I want to see some [research] effort but it should be calibrated to the user. Somebody who doesn't know much a...

Comment Post #276965 You might want to avoid calling it "JC", commonly used among religious Jews to avoid naming a certain 2000-year-old man explicitly.

Comment Post #276920 For what it's worth, there are various customs re what point in the prayer to add _Avinu Malkenu_ at. Some do so before confession, others after confession before face-falling, others after face-falling and _Shomer Yisrael_ before _Vaanachnu_, others after all of the usual supplications.

Answer A: What is our policy regarding using non-English languages in a post?
I like and support Isaac Moses's idea of having a content-in-Hebrew Q&A category parallel to the English Q&A one. With it as a backdrop, I'd like to address the questions in the question post above, with MHO: > 1. Should we allow users to write questions in non-English languages? …...

Comment Post #276897 The language of scholarship in Judaism for millennia has been not modern Hebrew but… I'm not sure what it's called. In any event, _that_ is the language more likely known to Jews outside of Israel who don't know English but are interested in asking questions about Judaism. Modern Hebrew is more likel...

Answer A: Are questions purely about Jews and Jewish History in-scope?
At the very least, > 5. Questions about individuals who happen to be Jewish (Isaac Asimov, Sandy Koufax, Albert Einstein, Benjamin Disraeli). without more going for them should be off-topic. They have nothing to do with Judaism and can lead to questions like "What did Jesus mean when he s...

Question Why not immerse in the early morning on erev Rosh Hashana?
Chaye Adam 138:5 writes: > וראוי לכל אדם לטבול במקוה או בנהר ולא יקדים לטבול עד שעה קודם חצות היום In my own translation: > It's seemly for every man to immerse in a ritualarium or a river [on the day before Rosh Hashana]. But he should not be so early as to immerse prior to an hour before noon....

Question What did the Kotzker mean by "If I am I…"?
Frequently attributed (e.g. by Aish and Chabad) to R. M'nachem Mendl of Kock is: > If I am I because I am I, and you are you because you are you, then I am I and you are you. But if I am I because you are you, and you are you because I am I, then I am not I and you are not you. I'd like good evid...

Yes, just "Judaism" is asking for confusion, but no custom name is necessary: just always call ourselves "Judaism Codidact".

Question a better Hebrew font for post titles
I guess this is more personal preference than anything else, but I think Hebrew in the post titles in the Q&A category uses quite an ugly font. The code seems to be ``` h1,h2,h3,h4,h5,h6{ font-family: "Red Hat Display", "Roboto", "Helvetica Neue", "Helvetica", "Arial"...

Question What's the difference between רָדַף אֶת and רָדַף אַחֲרֵי?
The kal verb רדף, "chase", appears many times in Tanach. But the preposition that follows it, to mark the object of the verb), varies: - Sometimes it's a direct object: it's marked either with no preposition at all, with אֶת, or with a direct-object suffix. Examples: וְרָדְפוּ מִכֶּם חֲמִשָּׁה מֵאָה...
