We've had some discussions about importing data from Mi Yodeya. The community hasn't yet decided what, if any, bulk imports to do, but we've had some requests to import specific questions and we'd like to support that. Importing is better than cutting and pasting -- it means you can bring over anything (with attribution), not just your own work, including answers to your own questions that already exist there. (This community is then, of course, free to apply the usual moderation tools here.)

Please comment on this post with links to specific questions on Mi Yodeya that you would like to import to this site. Let's say up to five links per comment, to keep things manageable for the team. Developers will do those imports (in batches, not immediately) and we'll delete the comments.

We will bring the posts in with their scores. There was some support for doing so on the linked question, and if the community decides otherwise, this can be changed retroactively.

How does this work retroactively? I've already copy-pasted a question over here; is there any way to link it to a question on MY? Also, what is imported with the post – just the thread itself, or also any comments on it?

@DonielF does it have answers there? Here? We don't have question merging yet, but if there's been divergence we could bring over the other question and then mark one as a dupe of the other I guess? I'm open for input on the best way to handle this situation.

I would like to import https://judaism.stackexchange.com/q/92741/, https://judaism.stackexchange.com/q/95468/, https://judaism.stackexchange.com/q/98410/, https://judaism.stackexchange.com/q/101978/, and https://judaism.stackexchange.com/q/95979/ (note that the last of those links to another MY question – I'll leave it to your judgement how to handle that).

Isaac Moses‭ wrote about 1 year ago:

@DonielF there are only a few of them. We can handle them on a case-by-case basis, with help from local posters (all three of us).

DonielF‭ wrote about 1 year ago:

@Monica In my case I manually cross-posted two questions: one I don't want imported (the mermaid question), and the other being word-for-word copied but unanswered on both platforms.

I'd appreciate it if you could import https://judaism.stackexchange.com/q/15857/170 with its answer. I asked it, and I've since set a bounty (a Mi Yodeya way of trying to get more attention to it) on it three times -- but it still haven't received a real answer. I hope it'll get one here.

@Monica Would something like a Google Forms submission be of help for organizing data requests? That way it’d be easier to keep track on your end of which posts still need to be imported, and on our end of which comments are still necessary and which are obsolete.

Monica Cellio‭ wrote about 1 year ago:

@DonielF I've asked a developer to (a) do the first round of imports (at which point we'll delete those comments and (b) discuss process improvements.

I'd like to import https://judaism.stackexchange.com/questions/69940/shalom-aleichem-shuvchem-instead-of-tzeitchem, prompted by this week's challenge. (I was about to ask and then remembered I had already. It's unanswered there.)

DonielF‭ wrote about 1 year ago:

Whenever this is finalized, can you please do a quick check through the past weeks' WTC submissions to scan for duplicates, and replace links as necessary?

@Harel13 imports done; see my answer below for some caveats.

I will clean up the comments here later. Depending on what happens with the Hebrew, we might need the original links for some post-processing.

Like any library, this site offers tons of great information, but does not offer personalized, professional advice, and does not take the place of seeking such advice from your rabbi.
