Welcome to the Judaism community on Codidact!

Will you help us build our community of learners? Drop into our study hall, ask questions, help others with answers to their questions, share a d'var torah if you're so inclined, invite your friends, and join us in building this community together. Not an ask-the-rabbi service, just people at all levels learning together.

Answer A: Can a woman blow the shofar during Elul for herself? Can anyone?
I would posit that there is no obligation of Shofar during Elul. It is a longstanding custom, but there are none of the hallmarks of an obligation, even Rabbinic: No ברכה (blessing) associated with it No calling out of the notes, as is required on Rosh Hashanah Extreme leniency (at least in m...

Answer A: "Jews not Judaism"
I don't see these types of questions as being that different from the others. They're not Halacha or Gemara, but there is still plenty of overlap. There are questions about the Rambam about his Seforim and Halacha and Hashkafa but also about his life - and all those things are connected. Jewish histo...

Comment Post #276375 2 - there are issues with anything that makes significant noise - I don't remember the source (unfortunately) but that enters into quite a few situations that might otherwise be (relatively) non-issues.

Comment Post #276375 Not answering (I actually started writing an answer earlier and then changed my mind) since I truly don't have time to do this topic justice - just two points to consider: 1 - In principle "microphone to remote speaker" should be no different from a traditional telephone where the *main* issue is dia...

Comment Post #276372 A relevant point is: At the peak (presumably first Temple days (possibly from the conquest of the land - not sure when these laws took effect, and even then probably only before the kingdom split), how many accidental killers were in the cities of refuge at one time? It was a relatively narrowly defi...

Answer A: What language(s) should we use for tags?
Having tags in English is important not just for non-Jews but also for Jews who don't read Hebrew well (or at all). But having Hebrew most definitely adds a nice flavor to the site. My recommendation is to have all tags be either English-only or English+Hebrew in a consistent format. For example, ...

Comment Post #276371 @aCVn I was thinking of my comments as mostly agreeing with your answer. But I'll add an answer regarding formatting.

Comment Post #276367 Why not? Daf Yomi does that every 7-1/2 years (plus many Daf Yomi groups actually have a Siyum on each Mesechta). That's Gemara rather than Mishna, but the principle *should* be the same.

Comment Post #276368 I've been to a few Sefer Torah dedications - and sometimes been honored with a letter (even without a donation!) But the letters written then are just the last few Pesukim (sentences). Almost the entire Torah is written by the Sofer alone. People "buying" a letter or word or Pasuk or Perek or Parsha ...

Question Categories - Divrei Torah, Purim Torah
One of the key features of Codidact is Categories. There has been some discussion elsewhere, but now that the community is up & running, Meta is the place to talk about this. Two suggestions I know of so far: Divrei Torah I think this should be Post only (i.e., like Q without the A) but allow ...
