_Mishna_, _Tamid_ 7:2: > בָּאוּ וְעָמְדוּ עַל מַעֲלוֹת הָאוּלָם עָמְדוּ הָרִאשׁוֹנִים לִדְרוֹם אֲחֵיהֶם הַכֹּהֲנִים וַחֲמִשָּׁה כֵלִים בְּיָדָם הַטֶּנִי בְיַד אֶחָד וְהַכּוּז בְּיַד אֶחָד וְהַמַּחְתָּה בְיַד אֶחָד וְהַבָּזָךְ בְּיַד אֶחָד וְכַף וְכִסּוּיָהּ בְּיַד אֶחָד וּבֵרְכוּ אֶת הָעָם… בַּמְּדִינָה הַכֹּהֲנִים נוֹשְׂאִים אֶת כַּפֵּיהֶם כְּנֶגֶד כִּתְפוֹתֵיהֶם וּבַמִּקְדָּשׁ עַל גַּבֵּי רָאשֵׁיהֶן…‏ > [The _kohanim_ who had participated in the morning service] went to stand on the steps of the antechamber to the main room of the Temple. The first five [namely, the five who had performed a service within the main room itself] stood to the south of their brethren _kohanim_, with five utensils [that they had ust finished using] in their hands: the basket in the hand of one, the pitcher in the hand of another,… and they blessed the people.… Elsewhere, the _kohanim_ would raise their hands opposite their shoulders [to bless the people], but in the Temple over their heads.… Did the _kohanim_ put the utensils down while blessing the people, or continue to hold them?
