Why is the system of listing unkosher animals inconsistent?
I am looking for resources that go through the section (Vayikra 11:1-30) with a fine toothed comb and discuss and explain the inconsistencies in how animals are described/listed. I have assembled a chart which helped me see that some categories are spoken of via the signs of being edible while others have lists.
Some have lists of what you MAY eat and some, of what you may NOT eat. Some have combinations. And at the end, when discussing animals that make one tamei, the text introduces a category of animal that should already be included among the earlier "animals" section because of the same signs that explain any mammal.
Here is the chart

I would suggest using the chart along with the text to double check my work.
There are many areas of inconsistency in style and approach -- is there a resource which goes through and explains them?
