A: Metered water tap on Shabbat Measuring is always a Rabbinic prohibition. It is only prohibited to directly measure something, but there is no problem to do an action that indirectly measures something out. A: Rosh Hashanah vs Rosh Chodesh I'm not a grammarian, but I think that with Rosh Hashana the focus is on the coming year, and it is not a categorization of the day. A: Why is מוציא לחם more of a problem than מתיר אסורים or מלביש ערמים? I understand that grammatically it is more correct to leave out the definite article, which is why Rava starts out saying that everyone agrees that מוציא is valid. The Torah definitely doesn't guarantee free speech - that would require a positive statement, and there is not such statement in the Torah. A better question is if it values free speech, and if there are any sources which are relevant. (more) |
