Article Parshas Mikeitz: An argument for innocence
The following[^1] is an excerpt from my book Parsha Ponders, available on Amazon. Is it not true that we found [your] money in our ...

Answer A: Lights for 24 hours or 3 hours on 8 days -- which is better?
The Pri Chadash to Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 670:1 s.v. ומקשו quotes the gemarra in the second chapter of Shabbos and the first chapter in Yoma as a counterargument against this Beis Yosef. It says there that the Menorah has to be lit the whole night. It sounds like if it will be lit only part of th...

Answer A: Purity and Channukah
The following isn't necessarily the only answer, and the sources aren't necessarily the earliest. Also, this is just a partial answer for now. What you were taught as a child is mentioned by the Ran to Shabbos 9b (in the pagination of the Rif) s.v. תנו רבנן (end): > ומשום הכי היו שמנה ימים מפני...

Answer A: Can one intentionally wait for a "painful" situation to be exempt from Sukkah?
You're asking your question in a very specific way, but it can be generalized to be: "Is it permissible to find ways to avoid fulfilling a mitzvah?. If it's forbidden, is it considered nullifying the positive mitzvah that was avoided?". Rav Asher Weiss in Minchas Asher Bamidbar § 17, found online ...

Answer A: What does it mean that Yisrael dwelt in sukkot in the wilderness?
Sefer Rokeach § 219, citing יש מפרשים, brought by the Eliyah Rabbah 625:1, says that the Jews dwelled in booths when they went to war against Sichon and Og, as well as during their conquest of the land of Canaan. The Chasam Sofer clarifies that, like you brought, they spent the majority of their t...

Question Hebrew username is backwards
Some users here (as opposed to other codidact sites) are more likely to have Hebrew letters in their username. One such user is רבות מחשבות. I recall seeing a post of theirs a few months ago, and it looked normal. Now, on the site, their username is backwards. I assume this is the result of som...

Answer A: Seeking list of prohibitions which force one to do an action
Here are some that I believe fit what you're looking for. Please inform me if I'm mistaken: Not to leave any idol worshipers in the land of Israel (Sefer HaMitzvos Lo Sa'aseh § 51; Sefer HaChinuch § 94) (Remove them from the land; the positive mitzvah is to eradicate the seven nations, yet this...

Answer A: May Jews bow as a courtesy?
We can't learn from Mordechai not bowing to Haman, as that was a special case. Our Sages were bothered that it is permissible to bow to a human, so why didn't Mordechai bow? Indeed, we see that Yaakov bowed to his brother Eisav (Genesis 33:3). Yosef's brothers bowed to him (ibid 42:6). There are also...

Answer A: When bringing first fruits, why do we say to the priest "your God" rather than "our God"?
Rav Moshe Shternbuch shlita in his sefer Ta'am Ve'Daas ad. loc. asks your question. He suggests that by being commanded to say "your G-d" and not "my G-d", it's meant to teach us the proper decorum when approaching and addressing the Kohanim. The Kohanim are unique in the Jewish nation in that the...

Answer A: Is Lashon Hara L'toelet Hutra or Dechuya?
Rav Yitzchak Berkovits (also spelled as Berkowitz, an expert in the laws of loshon hara) understands that if one follows all the requirements of toeles, there is no prohibition at all. It's not that it's loshon hara that's allowed. Seemingly this would mean it's hutra (but see the end). I heard th...

Question Imported answer forbidden from viewing
I wanted to view the imported question about the difference between אנכי and אני. I did a search for "what is the difference", and found links to various answers to a question with the title "Difference between אÖ²× Ö´×™ and אÖ¸× Ö¹×›Ö´×™". Now I heard the Hebrew imported funny, so here's an example ...

Answer A: Why aren't weddings on specific days?
Long story short: the Sages' enactment to marry a virgin on Wednesday doesn't apply anymore, and we can get around the reason to marry a widow on Thursday. However, there are a bunch of days that are ideal to get married, and a bunch of days that are recommended not to get married. The list is qui...

Answer A: Is one in violation of Lifnei Iveir for setting himself up to sin later?
In Kuntresei Shiurim Bava Basra Kuntres 9 Shiur 1 § 4 by Rav Gustman, he brings a couple of sources related to your question. First, he brings the Yad Ramah Bava Basra 26a § 107 by Rav Meir HaLevi Abulafia, who writes: > דאסור למיגרם מידי דאתי מיניה היזקא לאינשי אי משום לפני עור לא תתן מכשול וא...

Answer A: How do we understand tzniut as a violation of lifnei eevar?
This is a common misconception. While there of course are concerns for lifnei iver, placing a stumbling block (although I don't know if this would literally be transgressing the biblical prohibition, regardless the spirit of the prohibition is there), tsnius is something that applies at all times to ...

Answer A: Why not immerse in the early morning on erev Rosh Hashana?
Bottom Line: Apparently this Chayei Adam is based on the Arizal, so presumably it's kabbalistic. If you try to give a rational explanation to it, it creates problems. There's also a dispute if the Arizal means at the beginning of the fifth hour (two hours before chatzos), or after the fifth hour (an ...

Question Creation of Tag synonyms
There are a bunch of new tags being added, and many of them are synonyms of each other. This happens because some people put a tag of "prayer" and some put the Hebrew word "tefillah" or the Yiddish word "davening". Could there be a way to equate all of these tags, or similar such situations?
