A reported family minhag - is it binding?
Hypothetical -- a young man's father passes away. As the child grows, he follows the minhagim his father followed. But the son is not aware of his father's position on certain things. How bound is he by reports of a family minhag which he is otherwise unaware of? Does it depend on the source of the report (a family member vs. a community member)? Does it require some sort of proof?
