Where we have upper trope, what's the regular (lower?) trope for?
The decalogue passages in Sh'mot and D'varim have two sets of trope. The special ("upper") trope is used in public torah readings. What is the other (regular) trope for? Why not *just* have the upper trope there?
We also chant with a special melody for the song at the sea. There we have a tradition to switch to a different trope system but using the same trope symbols. Here, the actual trope symbols are different.
