How does a firstborn know to wash the kohen's hands?
_Mishna B'rura_ 128:22 says that if no _Levi_ is around to wash a _kohen_'s hands for the latter's blessing, a firstborn-to-his-mother should do so. Although _Kaf Hachayim_ :40 notes that he hasn't seen this done, I'm guessing _some_ communities must have this custom. My question is how this works in practice. At _musaf_, no big deal: it's easy to see during the Torah reading (which precedes _musaf_) that there's no _Levi_. But in places that have the _kohen_'s blessing at _shacharis_ also, how does a firstborn know to go wash the _kohen_'s hands?
