Rav Hirsch says that Lot was with them all along from the time that they left Charan until he split from them after they returned (wealthy) to Canaan.

[Lech Lacha 12:5](https://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/8176/showrashi/true#v5)

> And Abram took Sarai his wife and Lot his brother's son, and all their possessions that they had acquired, and the souls they had acquired in Haran, and they went to go to the land of Canaan, and they came to the land of Canaan.

Rav Hirsch also points out that each reference shows the gradual estrangement of Lot from Avraham.

[Lech Lecha 13:1](https://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/8208/jewish/Chapter-13.htm/showrashi/true#v1)

> And Abram came up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that was his, and Lot with him, to the south.

Until finally, Lot is referenced in a separate pasuk

[Lech Lecha 13:5](https://www.chabad.org/library/bible_cdo/aid/8208/jewish/Chapter-13.htm/showrashi/true#v5)

> And also Lot, who went with Abram, had flocks and cattle and tents.

Then the dispute arose and Lot decided to turn down Avraham's offer of half the land and settle to the east in Sodom.
