- This thread is for submitting suggestions for the weekly topic challenge. If you have a suggestion for a topic, please reply to this question with your suggestion as an answer.
- A good submission should:
- - Not be too niche a topic (think "kashrus," or perhaps "milk and meat," not "nat bar nat").
- - Not be too broad a topic (think "Book of Joshua," not "Prophets").
- - Include the name of the topic, optionally in transliterated Hebrew, but absolutely in English. If the name doesn't translate well, write a short summary of the topic.
- Every <strike>Tuesday</strike> Thursday night (subject to change), I will look through the submission suggestions here. The topic of the upcoming week's contest will be decided by which post has the highest score; lower-ranked posts which are seasonally relevant may be considered instead, but there is no guarantee that it will take precedence.
- To reduce clutter, submissions which have been selected for a current or previous challenge will be deleted from this thread.
- Any submission not chosen for one week is still eligible for the following week's topic challenge. Keep posting suggestions here, regardless of how many suggestions there already are! This list will be renewed every quarter, based on the Jewish calendar months (i.e. Q4 will run until Rosh Hashanah, for a slightly shorter quarter to work out the kinks in the challenge).

- - Not be too broad a topic (think "Book of Joshua," not "Prophets").
- - Include the name of the topic, optionally in transliterated Hebrew, but absolutely in English. If the name doesn't translate well, write a short summary of the topic.
Every Tuesday night (subject to change), I will look through the submission suggestions here. The topic of the upcoming week's contest will be decided by the following criteria:- Every post is given a base score of (upvotes+2)/(total votes+3).- Every suggestion which is relevant to an event occurring during the upcoming week will have its score boosted by a factor of 1.25*Example:* A suggestion about the Four Species receives three upvotes and two downvotes. Normally its score would be 5/8=62.5%. If Sukkos falls out during the upcoming week, its score is boosted to (5/4)(5/8)=78.13%.*Example:* A suggestion about the laws of bathrooms in Judaism receives five downvotes and no upvotes. Normally its score would be 1/4=25.0%. If the coming week's Torah portion is Ki Teitzei, which references the laws of bathroom modesty, this score is adjusted as (5/4)(1/4)=31.25%.- After each post's score is calculated, whichever post has the highest score will be chosen for the coming week's topic challenge. In the event of a tie, priority is given to submissions relevant to the coming week. If it's still a tie, priority is given to the submission with the highest amount of upvotes. If it's still a tie, I'll pick one at random.- To reduce clutter, submissions which have been selected for a current or previous challenge will be deleted from this thread.- Any submission not chosen for one week is still eligible for the following week's topic challenge. Keep posting suggestions here, regardless of how many suggestions there already are! This list will be renewed every quarter, based on the Jewish calendar months (i.e. Q4 will run until Rosh Hashanah, for a slightly shorter quarter to work out the kinks in the challenge).

- Every Tuesday night (subject to change), I will look through the submission suggestions here. If it's still a tie, I'll pick one at random.- Any submission not chosen for one week is still eligible for the following week's topic challenge. Keep posting suggestions here, regardless of how many suggestions there already are! This list will be renewed every quarter, based on the Jewish calendar months (i.e. Q4 will run until Rosh Hashanah, for a slightly shorter quarter to work out the kinks in the challenge).

- Revision history:
- V1.1: Adjusted how answers are scored and chosen so that terrible answers aren't automatically chosen just because they're seasonally relevant. Clarified how answer scoring works.
V1.2: Adjusted seasonally relevant boost factor to slow how quickly answers are boosted.

- Every Tuesday night (subject to change), I will look through the submission suggestions here. The topic of the upcoming week's contest will be decided by the following criteria:
- - Every post is given a base score of (upvotes+2)/(total votes+3).
- - Every suggestion which is relevant to an event occurring during the upcoming week will have its score boosted by a factor of 1.25
- *Example:* A suggestion about the Four Species receives three upvotes and two downvotes. Normally its score would be 5/8=62.5%. If Sukkos falls out during the upcoming week, its score is boosted to (5/4)(5/8)=78.13%.
- *Example:* A suggestion about the laws of bathrooms in Judaism receives five downvotes and no upvotes. Normally its score would be 1/4=25.0%. If the coming week's Torah portion is Ki Teitzei, which references the laws of bathroom modesty, this score is adjusted as (5/4)(1/4)=31.25%.
- - After each post's score is calculated, whichever post has the highest score will be chosen for the coming week's topic challenge. In the event of a tie, priority is given to submissions relevant to the coming week. If it's still a tie, priority is given to the submission with the highest amount of upvotes. If it's still a tie, I'll pick one at random.
- - To reduce clutter, submissions which have been selected for a current or previous challenge will be deleted from this thread.

- Every Tuesday night (subject to change), I will look through the submission suggestions here. The topic of the upcoming week's contest will be decided by the following criteria:
- 1. Any subject matter relevant to the time of year (ex. "Four Species" being suggested around Sukkos time, or "Amalek" being suggested the week of Parshas Ki Seitzei) receives higher priority. This higher priority only applies to topics where the event they're relevant to occurs during the week of that topic challenge.
- 2. Of those higher-priority submissions (or all submissions, if none receive higher priority), the one with the highest answer score (calculated with an extra upvote to account for the person submitting it in favor of the topic) will be chosen for the coming week's topic challenge.
- 3. In the event of a tie, I'll pick one at random.
