  • # Results Summary
  • 1. **Does spelling matter?** Yes, but the correct spelling for JS is not the same spelling as the Sefaria URL, and some sources support multiple spellings. Some cases are a bit finicky, especially where commas are required (ex. Mishnah Torah).
  • 2. **Do titles for Mishnah matter?** No; you can connect to the intended Mishnah regardless of if you use Mishnah, Tractate, or leave it blank; and this extends to Avos whether it uses Pirkei before or not.
  • 3. **Can I link to commentaries on sources?** You can link just fine to them on Tanach, but not directly in other categories.
  • 4. **Are all sources supported?** At least not with the names I've tried. Looks like Tanach, Mishnah, Talmud (Bavli and Yerushalmi), Midrash, Kabbalah, and certain Halachic, Tannaitic and Apocryphal volumes are supported.
  • 5. **What happens if I overlay my own hyperlink on a Sefaria keyword?** Your custom hyperlink takes precedence.

  • To whoever was responsible for implementing this: thank you! Even this much is incredible that you've been able to do this.
  • In terms of sources which I'd anticipate to be often quoted, is there any way to differentiate between an identical source referenced from Shulchan Aruch as opposed to Tur<strike>, and is there any way to implement citing the Mishnah Torah</strike>? Those would be my only major requests for sources not already supported. Additionally, how complicated is it to add this functionality to the edit preview, so that one can test whether they've referenced the right thing before hitting "submit"?
  • A previous draft here had an experiment. After digging through the code for the Linker I can confidently say that a complete answer to the question of "what can I link to" is "anything on Sefaria," but you have to be careful how you write it out. [Here](https://www.sefaria.org/linker.js) is the actual code for the Linker; if you scroll down or search the document for "var bookTitles" you'll see a full list of every variation on the text name that you can use. Or if you're not insane like me you can look at the [documentation on GitHub](https://github.com/Sefaria/Sefaria-Project/wiki/Sefaria-Auto-Linker).
  • Of course, our ever-helpful overlords here have implemented a "suggest reference" button. With that, all you have to do is select some text in your post, click the button, and it'll look for similarly-worded sources which you might've meant.

  • Feedback on my experiment:
  • 1. **Does spelling matter?** Yes, but the correct spelling for JS is not the same spelling as the Sefaria URL.
  • 2. **Do titles for Mishnah matter?** No; you can connect to the intended Mishnah regardless of if you use Mishnah, Tractate, or leave it blank; and this extends to Avos whether it uses Pirkei before or not.
  • 3. **Can I link to commentaries on sources?** Not directly. You can link just fine to them on Tanach, but not in other categories.
  • 4. **Are all sources supported?** At least not with the names I've tried. Looks like Tanach, Mishnah, Talmud (Bavli and Yerushalmi), Midrash, Kabbalah, Tannaitic, and certain Halachic and Apocryphal volumes are supported.

  • To whoever was responsible for implementing this: thank you! Even this much is incredible that you've been able to do this.
  • In terms of sources which I'd anticipate to be often quoted, is there any way to differentiate between an identical source referenced from Shulchan Aruch as opposed to Tur, and is there any way to implement citing the Mishnah Torah? Those would be my only major requests for sources not already supported. Additionally, how complicated is it to add this functionality to the edit preview, so that one can test whether they've referenced the right thing before hitting "submit"?
